From Simple Assistants to Autonomous, Governed Agents: Building Enterprise AI That Delivers on Its Promises

Generative AI has proven its value as an assistant: it can answer questions, draft content, and summarize information. But organizations now expect more. They need agents capable of acting autonomously within real business processes, leveraging existing systems without becoming an uncontrollable black box. This shift from occasional assistance to operational autonomy cannot happen without a framework. It requires robust governance and a technical architecture capable of tracking, securing, and orchestrating every interaction between AI agents and the enterprise information system.

This conference begins with these two foundational pillars: governance, which defines usage policies, authorized levels of autonomy, and accountability in the event of errors; and the AI Gateway, the technical layer that centralizes, controls, and secures the flow of information between AI models and enterprise applications. Together, they establish the trust and control required before any large-scale deployment can take place.

Building on this foundation, the session illustrates the transition through a concrete example: moving from a traditional AI assistant use case to an autonomous agent operating in production. It explores the real-world trade-offs encountered along the way, including the level of autonomy granted, the human oversight checkpoints that remain in place, integration with business applications, and the measurable outcomes achieved in practice.

Session Objective: Provide business leaders and technical teams with a practical roadmap for evolving from assistant-based prototypes to governed autonomous agents, without sacrificing either execution speed or risk management.
